It compares a product with others of the same kind. You'll see it on product cards, search results, your shopping list and saved items, and when you scan a barcode. You can also sort a search by Health rating: best first. Tap the badge to see what raises or lowers the rating.
No. It's Discount Trolley's own rating, and the app doesn't show the star rating printed on the pack. It starts from the product's nutrition panel, per 100 g or mL, using the nutrient tables the Australian Government publishes for the Health Star Rating system. Energy, saturated fat, sugars and sodium count against it. Fibre, protein and fruit, vegetables, nuts and legumes count for it. It isn't endorsed by FSANZ, the NHMRC, the TGA or the Australian Government. It's a guide to help you compare products, not medical or dietary advice.
A product needs a usable nutrition panel to be rated. Without one it shows Not rated yet, and nothing is guessed. Some products aren't rated at all, like infant formula and other special purpose foods, herbs, spices, tea, coffee and alcohol. Sunscreens, medicines and vitamins are never scored. Ratings are refreshed overnight, but labels change, so check the pack when it matters to you.
Yes. Scan a product's barcode in the app and its health rating shows straight away, right next to the price. Tap the badge to see what raises or lowers the rating.
